Third year student Joe Bradley has won
the prestigious Young Walter Scott Prize
in its inaugural year. Joe collected his
£500 travel grant at the Borders Book
Festival where he enjoyed a weekend
meeting well know writers including
Simon Mawer, this year’s winner of
the Walter Scott Prize for Historical
Fiction. Joe’s story,
A Most Unusual
Childhood
, is set in China during the
Boxer Rebellion and features a family
of English missionaries. It is based on
Joe’s own great-great-grandparents.
NASA Astronaut
The visit by former NASA astronaut, Michael Foale, was a tremendous success, inspiring
all those who came to his seminars and presentations. Pictured is Mike Foale with boys
from the Lower School Science Club with a banner wishing astronaut Tim Peake luck in his
London ‘space’ Marathon.
Congratulations to Sam Penrose whose art
was on display as part of the Henley Arts
Trail where he was the youngest exhibitor.
Sam takes up an Art Scholarship in the
Third Year at Abingdon.

Creating Time
A level product designers and artists took part in a concrete casting workshop to
design and manufacture a one meter diameter cast clock for the DT department. The
boys worked in pairs to design the 12 segments combining their artistic and design
skills into a fantastic legacy for the department.
