At the end of a day of
tough competition,
the CCF cadets
were surprised and
elated to hear that
they had won the
Air Squadron Trophy
Competition regional
stage, progressing
through to the
national competition.
Junior Corporal
Breach picked up
an individual prize
and the team was
awarded the RAF
Knowledge Trophy.
The cadets thoroughly
deserved their victory,
with superb teamwork
and tremendous
individual efforts.
Surprise success in Air Squadron
Trophy Competition
Enthusiastic physicists joined forces to compete against schools from across the country
in the annual Big Physics Quiz held at Birmingham University. Besides taking part in the
quiz, students toured the university and enjoyed a lecture on gravitational waves.

Brian Ho put in an excellent performance
in the Maths Feast competition, taking
joint first place in the ‘Main Course’ -
comprehension round, and being the
standout winners of the ‘Petits-Fours’
Relay Round.

A team of second year Science
Ambassadors has developed a model
hand-washing station as part of the
Practical Action charity’s Stop the Spread
challenge. Jack Tilley, Alex Long, Luka
Shanidze, Josh Giles-Friend and Matthew
Fowler demonstrated their model at the
Association for Science Education (ASE)
2017 conference. The British Science
Association has awarded all the boys a
CREST Discovery Award.
