It was great to welcome over 140 OAs to this historic City location, destroyed in the Great Fire of London and then bombed in the London Blitz. Friendship groups from different generations came together to share Abingdon memories and to catch up on the intervening years. Guests heard from Mike Windsor and the Chairman of the OA Club, Julian Denée (OA 1991). We’re most grateful to those academic colleagues who made the journey to join OAs for the evening. With a mix of leaving years, it was great to witness returning players and first time match attendees enjoying some challenging touch rugby, once again under the expert eye of our returning referee Tom Finch (OA 2010). After the match, OAs had time to enjoy lunch whilst our senior Abingdon rugby players played a pre-season friendly against Hurstpierpoint College. Amongst the OA spectators was Basil Margrave (OA 1947), who had brought photos of his rugby playing days at Abingdon to show current senior players. 6th Form Careers The OA Club’s 6th Form Careers Evening took place on 18 November. Over 40 OAs came to share their knowledge, experience and professional insights with 6th Formers. A multitude of careers were represented, including film, fine art, the military, medicine, law, banking, engineering, consultancy, journalism and many more. “Thoroughly well organised and enjoyable as ever.” (OA 1986) Oxbridge Mock Interviews On 11 November, a virtual mock interviews event was held over Zoom. 16 OAs, who are either currently studying or have recently graduated from Oxford or Cambridge, generously gave up their Friday evening to give the candidates a real flavour of what the interview process is all about. “It is fantastic that we have such a supportive body of OAs who are happy to support this event every year and my thanks go to the OAs who have kept the tradition going in 2022.” ~ Master i/c Oxbridge applications Medic, Dentist and Vet Interviews Evening On 10 November, 5 OA medics joined our Upper 6th medic applicants for a Zoom evening of interview preparation and advice. Each student was interviewed twice, with the opportunity to receive feedback. With this event running in its 13th year, we really appreciate OAs giving their time to help students who are in the position they once were.
