www.abingdon.org.uk 25 Abingdon News Connecting parents, supporting school life Welcome to 2022! As the year rushes by we can reflect that life is, hopefully, getting back to normal and so as ASPA we can think again about working on supporting parents to meet each other, and fundraising for the School. We are very much hoping to run Cheese and Wine evenings in March for the lower school parents, and the third year parents; we are also conscious that fourth year parents have had no real opportunity to gather, so we are hoping to run a similar event for you. It will be an opportunity to meet and mingle with other parents from your child’s year as the evenings get lighter, and hopefully warmer. Please keep an eye out for dates and venue. Plans are also in the early stages for a whole school parent association event in the summer term – it will be a fantastic event. How can you help? If you’d like to help out in any way, even as a one-off, we’d love to hear from you. Drop us a line at [email protected] Informal events Our year reps have been setting up many informal ‘get togethers’ with parents. In November the year 3 Newbury parents met for a coffee. Such a great time was had, a further date was put in the diary for evening drinks. Also in November all third year parents were invited for a coffee at Millets Farm – a wonderful place to visit – with amazing cakes! James’s House third year parents met for dinner, I’m sure the chilli and rice were delicious, but just look at these desserts. Please do use Classlist to get in touch with other parents in your child’s year. Also keep an eye out for other informal events which will appear on Classlist as arranged and organised by your year reps. Vacancies If you would like to join the ASPA committee we are looking for reps in Years 2, 4, and 5. Please do get in touch via [email protected] You may remember that we awarded several projects with grants in November 2020, most of this money has now been spent, and you can find full details and pictures of these awards on our website. There are a couple of projects still in development and we look forward to updates, and pictures, from Mr Bignell and Capt. Edwards. Welcome to our new volunteers – Gayle Bell, Fiona Urquart and Adele Zhu as year 1 representatives. For a full list of committee members and year representatives, please see our webpage: www.abingdon.org.uk/aspa Lower School Joint Thinking Supper Academic Award holders in the Second Year met with girls from St Helen’s for a Thinking Supper. Working in groups, they researched some environmental issues inspired by the COP26 conference, continued discussions over dinner, and then presented their findings.
