www.abingdon.org.uk 23 Year 8 combined an Art and Science trip to Oxford’s Natural History Museum. Abingdon Preparatory School In their trip to Dorset, Year 8 saw at firsthand the coastal features which they had investigated through maps, diagrams and photographs back at school. Out and About Year 5 explored animals in art this term and learnt to record from observation with a very special guest, Toby the spaniel. The boys created sketches considering shapes and textures and then created free form sculptures in clay to fully understand the three-dimensional qualities. Toby the spaniel Year 2 enjoyed the Earth Trust in Wittenham Clumps learning about rivers and the water cycle. The Ridgeway was at its glorious best when Year 4 took to the ancient paths for their annual walk and residential stay from West Ilsley to White Horse Hill. Highlights were free time in the woods, building dens, reenacting battles, whether mythical, ancient or modern, and hunting for bugs. Sport Sport this term concentrated on rugby and cross-country. In rugby, all boys from Year 3 upwards represented the school with teams making excellent progress. Cross- country also saw some very impressive results with third place in the regional heat of the U13 English Schools Cross-Country Cup and first place in the U13 Abingdon School Cross-Country relays.
