22 January 2022 Abingdon Preparatory School Pumpkin festival Pre-Prep enjoyed Halloween, creating some wonderful pumkins and collecting food for the gatehouse Charity appeal. New facilities taking shape Headmasters, Craig Williams and Mike Windsor, enjoyed a progress visit to the new Prep School facilities. Given a fair wind and supply chain permitting, the building is on target for the boys to be enjoying the new music school, a second science lab, purpose-built spaces for CDT and four additional classrooms for Years 5 and 6 in autumn 2022. The exciting new development also paves the way for a major refurbishment of the library which will double in size, a new multi-use hall for Pre-Prep and much improved facilities for Computing, Drama and Learning Support. One of this term’s highlights was welcoming parents to our first music platform concert of the year, and the first live indoor music event since the beginning of the pandemic. Boys from Year 3 to Year 8 thoroughly enjoyed performing and demonstrated a range of abilities, from beginners through to those playing at a Grade 8. Styles and genres varied from Vivaldi and Kulah, through to Elton John, The White Stripes, and a particularly rousing drum performance of an original piece called “Noisy Neighbour!” Music making On 11 November, the whole school stopped for two minutes’ silence, signalled by the Last Post. Remembrance Science at Abingdon School Our Year 5 pupils were invited over to the Yang Science Centre at Abingdon for a workshop looking at density. The boys all enjoyed getting to wear the junior lab coats and working with the workshop leaders to build density ladders in measuring cylinders. Fireworks There was a welcome return for the annual display which was absolutely stunning and thoroughly enjoyed by all.
