16 January 2022 Abingdon News Student Voice St Helen and St Katharine School kindly hosted the inaugural OX14 Learning Partnership Student Voice Committee. Sixth form Abingdon students joined representatives from St Helen’s, Larkmead, John Mason, Fitzharrys and Radley to discuss key issues and to help plan the future of partnerships across the town from a student perspective. Botany biomes The botany biomes in the science centre have been completed and demonstrate some of nature’s amazing adaptations to arid and nutrient poor ecosystems. Funded by SUS, these are a valuable teaching aid and will inspire students and visitors to engage with plant science. Third year pupil, Dan Phillips, won the Southampton Sporterium criterium road race retaining the title he won as an U12 rider, to become this year’s U14 champion. International windsurfing Michael Winstanley in the Third Year competed over half term in the 2021 T293 Techno World Windsurfing Championships, Lake Garda. It was Michael’s first international competition and high winds made it a challenging experience but he learnt a lot and thoroughly enjoyed the event. Fencing Lower sixth former, Ben MacLennan, secured a place on the national U18 Fencing Squad, representing GB at the Individual International Cadet Competition in Belgrade. Cycling
