Abingdon News No.59

Around 100 Year 10 and 11 students from Abingdon, Fitzharrys, Our Lady’s Abingdon, John Mason and St Helen & St Katharine attended a ‘Foreign Languages and Careers’ event, with a panel of alumni from Abingdon and St Helen’s. They explored how foreign languages can be used in different types of professions and industry sectors, and discussed studying foreign languages at A level. We received these pictures and thanks from the MAMA Uganda Grace clinic following a donation from Abingdon School students of money raised from a ‘non-uniform’ day. The money has gone towards improving maternity services in the area, and has helped to provide beds, drugs and equipment to run the health clinic in Kyarushesha, Uganda. The clinic was officially opened at the end of October, and Abingdon School is represented on the plaque. Abingdon News 11 November saw the whole school gathered outside Big School to remember the fallen and to mark the two-minute silence. Remembrance Parade 12 MFL Careers Festive handbells The Bell Ringing Club joined forces with ringers from St Helen’s church for a festive session of Christmas carols on handbells. International Men’s Day The School celebrated International Men’s day on 19 November. Lower school boys marked the day with a reflection on what qualities make a good man. They had a chance to award certificates to teachers who they believe are good role models. As a bit of fun, we also had a photo booth with a fine selection of moustaches and hats!
