22 September 2021 Abingdon Preparatory School Music in Year 5 Glockenspiels were the instrument of choice for practising reading notes on the treble clef, while becoming familiar with the keyboard layout and playing together as an ensemble. Ancient Greeks Learning to measure Year 1 created their own potions by using a range of containers and measuring equipment to carefully read and measure millilitres. Year 4 enthusiastically took to their art project to create Ancient Greek battle shields. Year 7 was inspired by Julian Opie to create some powerful pandemic portraits. Using the gridding method, flat screen painting and outlining the facial shapes in Opie’s distinctive style, they have made a fantastic array of poignant self-portraits. Pandemic portraits Boys in Year 3 prepared a fact file of famous artists including pop artist Andy Warhol. The boys were inspired to create their own collages of soup cans. Year 8 investigated how different materials affected the drop of a parachute for their Bronze Crest Awards. Other topics included reactivity; testing metals and acid, sodium bicarbonate and fizzy drinks and designing the perfect bath bomb. The experiment that led to the most trial and error was the boys’ attempt to build a machine for propelling tennis balls out of guttering!
