abingdon.org.uk/prep 13 AbingdonPrep Other Half and Music Understanding rhythm and pulse is fundamental to most music making around the world. In rhythm club, pupils will learn how to read and play rhythmic notation using various percussion instruments in a fun and accessible way. Boys enjoyed an exuberant drumming session in the Other Half Rhythm Club. They practised keeping the beat by using the syllables of some of their favourite foods, including strawberry ice cream! Rhythm Club The Year 5s were learning how to play rounds today using the glockenspiels (‘bell play’ in German). This is a great instrument to learn how to read the notes on the treble clef and keyboard layout. Rounds help teach how to play together as an ensemble. ‘Bell Playing’ with Year 5 Year 3-8 were treated to a day of high energy workshops from Step 2 Dance as they had fun perfecting the impressive ‘helicopter’ and ‘worm’ moves. This culminated in the performance of a routine at the end of each session. Nadia and Taz, our instructors, will be back with us in September offering weekly lunch time clubs as a dynamic new addition to our Other Half programme.
