A Rough Guide to the Middle School

Introduction The pages of a booklet can only hint at what the flavour of a School is like; it is the people and relationships that matter more than glossy pictures and fancy text. I hope, however, that this booklet offers you a flavour of Middle School life at Abingdon. The text is written by Middle School students for new Middle School students. It is, essentially, your rough guide. Hopefully it will answer some of your questions and allay all those normal fears and anxieties about starting at your new school. Abingdon is an outstanding school where our students are able to learn, develop and flourish in a supportive and positive environment. For me, the quality of the relationships among the students and between students and staff is a key ingredient for the school's success. Abingdon offers a huge range of opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. It is a school where individuals can find their place whatever their interests, skill-set and qualities. My advice to you as you start at Abingdon is: give of your best; learn hard, play hard and make the most of every opportunity. The more you put in, the more you will get out of your time here. Develop the skills you already have as much as possible but equally try new things. Do not be afraid to get things wrong. Treat others with respect, be considerate. Look out for each other. Finally, always ask for help if you need it. There are many people both staff and students who are there to support you. In the meantime, if you have any questions, you can email me at [email protected] or refer to the school website at www.abingdon.org.uk
