Abingdon News www.abingdon.org.uk 7 Peer Support Leads training Around 40 students from Larkmead, John Mason, Fitzharrys, Abingdon School and St Helen’s took part in their first Peer Support Lead Training event via zoom. The session was led by psychotherapist and counsellor, Debbie Lee, who focused on helping the Peer Support Leads to listen and talk with students who are struggling, an especially important skill to have at this time. Warhammer The members of the newly formed Lower School Warhammer Club have been making great progress with the initial construction and painting of their models. Geology Club Abingdon’s Other Half Geology Club has been getting stuck into the GCSE course this term studying minerals and the rock cycle. As part of their Be More Griffen course, lower school boys discussed the idea of what qualities make a hero and went on to choose a hero for their tutor group. In perhaps a reflection of the issues most important to them at the current time, their choices were a mix of individuals who care for others and for the environment. Framed pictures of the heroes are on display in the Lower School Houseroom. Lower school heroes Christmas Concert The Christmas Concert moved online this year with year group ‘Bubble Orchestras’ performing traditional and contemporary favourites. A very special appearance was the partnership with the charity, Brass for Africa, which, thanks to some technical wizardry, saw our Chapel Choir in a joint performance of Away in a Manger with some musicians from Uganda.
