Clothes
You must make sure that all
your clothes are named and
that the house matron is
informed of any clothes that

is important in order to sort
your clothes in the laundry
and to make sure your
clothes are not lost or given
to the wrong pupil.
There is only a limited

Electrical equipment
We recognise that you
will have lots of electrical
equipment that you use in
your every day lives and
as part of your studies. It
is important that you only
bring
what
you
need,
otherwise there wont be
enough space for it. It is
also important that you
keep
valuable
electrical
equipment locked away in
your lockable cupboard or
drawer. There are locks for
laptops provided by the
house. You should also be
aware that looking after
your
valuable
electrical
items is your responsibility.
All electrical equipment that
you bring to school will be
safety tested (PAT tested)
by our staff.
Home comforts
Many boys bring certain
home comforts with them;
things that help them adjust
and remind them of home.
This is fine as long as you
don’t bring too much stuff.
It is best to pack light until
you get a good idea about
how much space you will
have in your room. Then
you can bring more things,
if there is room.
Often boys bring food with
them. You should know
that you will not be allowed
to boil water or cook, or
toast food in your room
so please don’t bring any
cooking equipment with
you. The house kitchen has
all the necessary facilities
for cooking. Cooked food
should only be eaten in the
house kitchen. You will also
only be allowed as much
additional snack food as can
be stored in your locker or
tuck box.
Valuables
You will have many valuable
items at home. Before
you bring a valuable item
to school you should ask
yourself whether you really
need it at school. If you
decide you do need it, then
you need to make sure it is
kept safe. In your room you
will have a lockable drawer,
a lockable cupboard and a
safe (operated by a code that
you can set). You can also
give valuable items to your
housemaster to look after. Mr
Golding runs a house bank
for those pupils who bring
their pocket money to school.
Most sixth formers have their
own bank accounts that they
set up with English banks.
This means that they can
keep their money safe and
withdraw it when they need
to. You should speak to Mr
Golding for help setting up a
bank account.
Stationery
You will of course need
stationery (pens, pencils,
files, paper, calculators etc.)
for your time at school. You
may choose to bring this
with you. However, if you
feel that you don’t have
space in your luggage
there are several shops in
Abingdon where you can
buy stationery. You will be
shown where these are and
given time to buy what you
need, before school starts.
What should I bring with me?
