Abingdon News No.53

www.abingdon.org.uk 19 Defying the poor weather, the boys had a successful term with well over a hundred cross-country, hockey and football fixtures. All boys in Years 3 to 8 represented the School in numerous matches and there was great excitement for our Under 11C, Under 10A and Under 8B and C football teams who went through the season unbeaten. Team sports continue to play an important part in the life of an Abingdon Prep boy. Y5 Soirée Sport The Junior Section production of Hoodwinked transported an appreciative audience to Sherwood Forest where the Sheriff of Nottingham, assisted by his slightly dopey deputy, had the audience boo-ing his audacious plans to capture the heroic Robin Hood and separate him from the beautiful Maid Marian. Hoodwinked Years 7 and 8 produced some stunning pieces when they experimented with drypoint etching and creating their own sculptures. Saturday Art Workshops Some interesting and well thought through vessels, made from recycled materials and rubber bands, crossed the school swimming pool under the Head’s starting orders. A sportsman’s sweepstake was a highlight but one of the lighter, more unusual looking crafts with two extending floating outriggers zoomed straight across the water much to the delight of the designers Alex and Alfie. Both fully deserved their GOLD awards! ‘Love’ was the theme for the Year 5 Soirée with interpretations of Romeo and Juliet, renditions of ‘The Highwayman’ by Alfred Noyes, and recitals from our talented musicians. The evening’s highlight was the whole year group coming together to sing four classic Disney love songs. CDT - Year 8 Annual Boat Race
