Abingdon News Prestigious opera award Congratulations to upper sixth former, David Bicarregui, who at a performance of Puccini’s La Bohème at the Oxford Playhouse, was the recipient of this year’s Michael Pendred Award from Oxford Opera. This award recognises the young musician who showed the most dedication, determination and outstanding potential as a future opera singer. Codebreaking at Bletchley Park Third year academic scholars explored codebreaking on their trip to Bletchley Park. A guided tour focused on the codebreakers’ role in the D-Day landings, and the boys enjoyed a workshop on the Enigma machine as well as a tour of the museum and Mansion house. Lower School quiz night Lower school pupils from Abingdon and St Helen’s enjoyed a joint quiz night where they tested their knowledge of Geography, History, Science and sport, and tried to solve anagrams, dingbats, and picture clues. They also enjoyed a curry or lasagne supper together in the Dining Hall. Constructing Treehouses Lower school boys constructed treehouse models in an art workshop, discussing their structures and building requirements to find problem solving techniques . 10
