Abingdon News Gold DofE award Sixth former Alexander Scott was the first in his year to complete the Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Alex volunteered as a lower school assistant for his volunteering section, learnt the guitar for his skill section and played hockey for the School for the physical section. He successfully completed challenging expeditions on Dartmoor and the Lake District and will be invited to receive his certificate from a member of the Royal Family. 78 boys also received their Bronze award and 45 boys their Silver award certificates. Spotlight on Languages Young Enterprise took part in their first event at the St Helen’s Christmas Fayre St Helen’s was once again victorious in the annual sixth form lacrosse match. The Brass Band, Gospel Choir and Music in the Community group entertained Abingdon residents at the annual Christmas tea party. The highlight of the afternoon was the raffle expertly run by Thomas Kent and Callum Ryall. Christmas cheer Young Enterprise Sixteen modern linguists sampled workshops and lectures at Bath University’s annual ‘Spotlight on Languages’ day which promotes language related degrees. 6
