Abingdon News No. 52

16 January 2020 Abingdon Sport Autum rain meant training on the water was difficult but the senior squad continued in a determined fashion on land and in the gym. Highlights for the term included Chris Fry, L6th, finishing 31st in the single scull at Great Britain trials and then invited to the GB team December training camp. At Fours Head crews finished 2nd, 10th and 14th in Band 2 Coxed Fours and 3rd and 5th in Band 1 Coxless Fours. Sailing A windy first week of term saw new students to the Sailing Club paired up with experienced sixth form sailors and dinghy instructors to give them a taste of the sport. The squad has had a particularly good term, with seniors and juniors enjoying plenty of success with wins against St Edward’s, Bradfield, RGS High Wycombe, Wellington and Radley. We look forward to repeating last year’s success in the National Shield. Racketlon Lower sixth former Will Taylor was selected to play for the Great Britain U16 squad at the Racketlon World Team Championships in Leipzig. Will won five out of his seven matches. Croquet Four boys represented Abingdon at the Croquet Association National School Croquet Championships and the National Junior Singles Championships. The boys played superbly and improved throughout the weekend. Squash Four lower sixth students were selected for the GB U21 Canoe Polo Development Academy, passing fitness, ball handling skills and kayaking assessments. Canoe Polo Rowing
