www.abingdon.org.uk 17 Katya Lebedeva’s Masterclass Prominent Russian pianist and teacher, Katya Lebedeva, led the piano masterclass with some of the School’s pianists in a fantastic evening of teaching and learning. Miss Lebedeva is a highly successful performer and teaches at Trinity Laban Conservatoire and the Royal College of Music. The benefit concert for this summer’s Japan and Hong Kong tour was a lovely opportunity to raise both awareness and funds for our exciting 10 days in the Far East with the First Orchestra and Big Band. There were around 200 boys involved with three orchestras, three bands, two jazz ensembles and the entire Second Year in a choir. Far East Benefit Concert Chapel Choir at Gloucester Cathedral Chamber Music Concert The annual Chamber Music Concert took place on an unexpectedly balmy February evening. The programme included an impressive cross-section of chamber music from a number of different ensembles – woodwind, brass, strings and piano, and from musicians in all seven year groups of the school. Singers’ Platform Eight of Abingdon’s singers, aged between 13 and 18 entertained an appreciative audience with a repertoire from the 18th to 20th centuries. Lower School Entertain Lower school musicians had the chance to play in front of their peers in this term’s Lower School lunchtime concert. As well as solo items on guitar, saxophone, and harp, the audience was treated to performances by Junior Brass, Junior Blues and the Lower School Band.
