14 April 2019 Abingdon Sport The Club had a fantastic term competing against some of the best teams in the country. The Seniors made their impact on the national stage finishing 6th and 7th in the Bath and Otter Cup National Relays, this was on top of winning the Bromsgrove Relays and Otter Challenge Cup. Younger boys also performed superbly well finishing 2nd (U16) and 3rd (U14) at the Warwick 100s against some of the top swimming schools in the South of England. A number of school records were also broken this term. The success continues with an undefeated fixture list for 2018/19 and team and individual trophies at the annual Public Schools Fencing Championship at Crystal Palace. Ed Scott Payne won the Junior Epee Championship and Master at Arms Trophies. Fencing Boat Club The Club had a strong head season. Recently, the J15, J16 and Senior squads raced Hammersmith Head with the 1st VIII finding themselves in a close 6th. The J14s first major race of the season saw the As and Bs racing The Scullery, while the Cs and Ds went upriver, against Radley. Great results at The Scullery - As came 11th and the Bs 23rd. Unfortunately the Club was unable to defend its placings at Schools’ Head due to high winds. Connor Brown, U6, produced some exceptional results at GB team trials, winning the long distance trial and now progresses to final selection for the Munich International Regatta for the GB Rowing Team. Swimming Runners had a superb season with a number of individual and team victories. The junior squad are a year group to watch, taking numerous race titles including Marlborough, Radley Relays and the County Championships. Ten runners secured places in the Oxfordshire team that ran at the English Schools Championships. Cross-country The team won a very impressive Gold after an extremely tough series of matches in the B-League at Cardiff University’s Canoe Polo Tournament. Canoe Polo Abingdon beat Leighton Park in the ISGA Area Plate knockout Competition allowing the team to progress through to the regional final. Golf
