Abingdon Prep is delighted to announce planning permission for a new building which will create very exciting opportunities for the boys across a wide range of subjects. The stunning new development will house a Music School, a second science lab, purpose- built spaces for CDT and four additional classrooms for Years 6 and 7. The new building will also create space to transform many of our existing facilities including a major change to the library which will more than double in size and undergo complete refurbishment becoming a bright, modern, new learning space with teaching, break out and quiet reading areas. There will be a new multi-use hall for Pre-Prep and much improved facilities for Computing, Drama and Learning Support. All new capital development projects are currently on hold as a result of the coronavirus outbreak so the timescale for the new development has yet to be confirmed. Fantastic New Opportunities at Abingdon Prep In late January, Year 8 completed their geography coursework, which counts towards their final AP+ grades. All of the boys had to answer the key question: Using named and illustrated examples, describe features found on a Concordant and Discordant Coastline, and explain how they have formed and continue to change. Most chose locations along the Dorset coast, which they visited last term on their field studies trip, but some looked further afield to East Yorkshire and North Devon. AP+ Geography Coursework Adam’s model of Flamborough Head This assignment employed many key skill strands: independent research, using ICT, reviewing, editing and improving their work and its presentation. Higher order thinking skills were needed to make connections between place, geology, prevailing conditions, the role of human intervention and processes and resulting features of erosion or deposition. Many boys chose to supplement their written assignment with formal presentations to an audience, model building and artwork. Stefan Gerrard Archie’s Lego Lulworth Cove
